COOL DESIGNS FOR THE INSIDE
Any interior design that can be done in a home or office can probably be done in an Airstream. They do create more of a challenge, though, because nothing in an Airstream trailer is flat except the floor. The walls are curved, the ceiling is curved, the ends are curved – you get the idea. But this classic curve opens up some new design possibilities that are not possible in other ‘non-Airstream’ trailers. This article looks at some well-executed Airstream interior creations to give you a better sense of what’s possible.
Wrapped in White
Toastworthy is dedicated to ‘Toasting the Worth–It Moments.’ Toastworthy had such great success with their first Airstream, they had P&S Trailer of Ohio create a second trailer! Toasty II is now making the rounds at parties around Washington D.C.
Wood Wrapped Ceiling & End Caps
Steam bent planks covering the end cap and running down the ceiling adds a warm relaxed ‘bar like’ feel to this interior – which is exactly what Pacifico Brewery was looking for in this marketing/promotional trailer.
Pacifico Brewery uses several Airstreams for brand promotion. The newer Airstream, a 2010 International, has a large rear hatch for easy loading of kegs, table umbrellas, cornhole boards and promotional giveaways. Both trailers were designed with a lounge/seating area for marketing staff as well as invited guests. Transformations were performed by Pioneer Vintage Trailer in Ohio.
Wood Walls
The wood slatted walls in this 1960 Airstream Safari 22 footer sets just the right mood for the Foxtail Mobile Bar.
This 1964 Safari interior has a very classic warm feel. The hickory wood interior says kick your shoes off, grab a seat and relax.
Wood AND White Aluminum
How about a wood and aluminum combo? Here is a beautiful wood interior endcap with the rest done in white enamel aluminum. A nice way to make the wood stand out.
This interior belongs to a mobile hair salon.
Stainless & Wood Combo
Here’s a combination of stainless steel countertops and warm wooden fronts on the cupboards and end cabinets. The floor is vinyl but has a nice wood plank appearance. Vinyl has come a long way in better appearance and is much easier to maintain than wood flooring. A throw rug also adds a homey touch.
Reclaimed Wood
These beautiful cabinets and wall treatment was done in reclaimed wood for Camp Aramoni – a new luxury campground and event space that’s redefining travel in the Midwest. The trailer is decked out with a coffee grinder, expresso maker, ice bins, drain board and speed rail. Outside boasts a full awning and large serving window.
How About Copper?
This cigar and bourbon bar can be rented for your special events. The walls are covered with sheet copper adding to your warm experience of relaxing with cuban cigar and sipping bourbon.
Polished Aluminum
Make the inside look just like the outside! Cladding the inside with sheet aluminum and all those fabulous rivets gives a clean, slightly industrial look to your interior.
Do You Need A Bathroom?
Although Airstream campers always came from the factory with a bath/shower, these facilities are usually removed when creating vending and marketing trailers. The main reason is the extra plumbing and holding tanks that are required with them. Then’s there the maintenance of dumping the tanks, etc. Although you probably won’t need a shower, consider whether you may require restroom facilities when the trailer is set up at your promotional events.
Simple and Open
This repurposed Argosy was turned into a mobile recording platform for 30A Radio in Florida. Simple bench seating inside left plenty of open area. Corrugated metal wainscoting on the walls gives an industrial look while tin ceiling panels are used as accents on the bench fronts and ceiling to warm up the look a bit. Large jute rope is used as a chair rail to keep it natural.
